I am nearly done with my book. I’ve finished writing the poetry for it and I have 44 illustrations so far. The goal is 50, so all I have left is 6 more drawings. It’s like fingernails on the chalkboard. The deadline I set for myself was December 31. I’m on track so far, but I’m finding my motivation is lacking. Not as badly as in November when I was off my ADHD meds and couldn’t draw at all, but it’s definitely not where it was in October when I was a powerhouse of productivity working on Inktober. You can see my drawings for December so far here and my illustrations from October here. Come on, self, you can do this! This is the home stretch.

When I finish my last illustration, I am setting the book aside for a month and in February I will start the arduous process of editing it and getting it ready for self publishing.

I know what I want to do for my next art series. Returning to my old passion of medical history, I am going to be drawing in oil pastel from a collection of Japanese medical photographs dated to 1900. I have a book of them. Right now my plan is to do it in the style of one of my favorite Instagram artists and go from there developing my own style. I needed somewhere to start though and her style is a starting point. It’s kind of the direction I want to take it, but I do want to develop my own unique approach over time. January is for farting around with this new medium, seeing where it takes me. Not going to share anything until I know for sure what I am doing with this series.

Here is the illustration I did yesterday:
