I started this poem yesterday but finished it today. Not my favorite work of mine, but it’s a completed poem. Now to let my brain stew and come up with fresh material. I must finish what I start, art or poetry, before my mind allows me to move onto something new.

I bought four books of poetry. Where Water Comes Together with Other Water: Poems by Raymond Carver, After the Fall: Poems Old and New by Edward Field, Louis Simpson Collected Poems, and The Penguin Anthology of Twentieth Century American Poets. I am almost finished with the current anthology I’m reading (A Book of Luminous Things) and I finished an anthology of flash sequences (Nothing to Declare) so I needed new poetry to read.

What place in the world do you never want to visit? Why?

Any war torn country is off the list. If I travel I want to go on vacation and relax. I’m not a journalist, an aid worker, or someone looking for an adrenaline rush. Give me a nice, peaceful, relaxing place to go where I can eat street food without shitting it out directly afterwards. Also, not a lot of air travel. Long plane rides stress me out nowadays. I have endured the 14 hour flight back and forth from the US to New Zealand one too many times. About the most I can do on a flight is 4-6 hours.

I endured a session of strength training today. Took me a lot of procrastinated time to finally do it, but it’s done. Hurrah! Only one more day of that this week. Yesterday I didn’t exercise so now I have to exercise on Sunday. Kind of a bummer because I had hoped to have that day off.

To-Do-List

  1. Strength train
  2. Walk the dog
  3. Cook at home
  4. Poetry class
  5. Finish poem
