So for Inktober day 4 I have a picture of some migrating swallows which relates to a poem I wrote. It was a fun and easy one to do and didn’t take very long. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

What’s a topic or issue about which you’ve changed your mind?

The death penalty. When I was younger I thought evil people deserved to die, but as I aged, I learned how faulty evidence can be and how some people who have been put to death have been later exonerated. That seemed wrong to me so unless you can provide absolute certainty with evidence, which yes sometimes it’s clear cut and obvious, but since it can’t always be that way, I don’t think the death penalty should be an option. Life in prison just has to be an adequate enough sentence for the worst of the worst. Keep them off the streets, but don’t put people to death because you can’t always be 100 percent sure it’s the right person and so long as that uncertainty remains, it isn’t right to kill anybody.

So I had a bit of a bump yesterday with my habit change journey. I did eat my anti-inflammatory foods, but I also had a lot of candy and 34 percent of my calories came from ultra-processed food. Other than that I got all my other intentions done and followed my daily routine. The important thing is I try to learn from my mistake and use that knowledge to do better the rest of the weekend. I’ve devised a system in which I need to get through seven seperate cravings (which I usually have 1 a day) before I allow myself a treat. I’ll increase the number of cravings I need to get through as time goes on. We’ll see how this goes, but I’m going to try it and see if it helps. Cravings don’t last forever, and they do go away after awhile. I just need to wait it out seven times and then I can have something ultra-processed.
