I haven’t yet done anything creative today so I am sharing a poem about creativity I wrote a couple of days ago. I do plan on doing some painting today so tomorrow I’ll have something visual to share.

How do you relax?
I read books of poetry and meditate. It’s funny, although I write and read poetry, I don’t find myself understanding most of it, including my own work. It’s beautiful to read, but it’s the language of the subconscious and not easily deciphered. Still, I take inspiration from poetry I read by others and it drives my own writing practice, so I continue to do it, even if a lot of poetry remains mysterious to me. I rather like a sense of mystery.
Even if I could, I don’t think I’d take a poetry class to try to make sense of it all. That would rob me of my raw creativity like it did with my visual art when I went to art school. I like having a channel to my subconscious that I don’t quite comprehend with my conscious brain. I don’t want things to have a clear meaning or a way of being deciphered. Other people’s poetry, and especially my own, is best left to the subconscious because I trust some part of me picks up a meaning, even if I’m not fully aware of that happening. It comes out in my writing, so something is soaking in.
Here is yesterday’s diary of my habit change journey:
Day 4 of 60 (Sept 5) –
Morning Routine – Had a bit of a slow start this morning, but eventually I got into the swing of things. Did some writing today instead of art making. Did my 20 minutes of mindfulness during jogging. Didn’t have the most nutritious breakfast but it also wasn’t unhealthy. Did my morning chores and whatnot.
Mid-day Routine – Had a healthy lunch and didn’t go walking because I did my mindfulness during my morning jog. Took the dog to the vet and had an unhealthy snack on the way home, but kept it to a single serving. Was going to declutter the kitchen today but I’m just not feeling like doing much of anything right now.
Evening Routine – Had a bit of a hard time getting into my evening routine but I did manage to cook dinner and eat a mostly healthy meal (3 items were nutritious foods and one serving was unhealthy). During dinner we watched a movie then afterwards I meditated for 20 minutes and read my book. Went to bed after that.
All core values achieved. Hip pain was minor in the afternoon and not present at all in the morning. That really seems to be improving with improved diet and regular exercise. Swelling in my lower leg due to the baker’s cyst is still there.
