The Art & Poetry of Mary Coleman

So I’ve been writing every day and most days I have done a portrait. Yesterday’s portrait was a bit of a failure, but I worked on it again today and I like it a bit better. Still not worth sharing though. The one below is Monday’s portrait. Going to start a new one today with some of the techniques I liked from yesterday and am going to try to build on them and hopefully improve.

My name belonged to my maternal grandmother. Originally I was going to be called Ellen (my middle name) after my paternal great grandmother, but my grandmother Mary was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer while my mother was pregnant and so she wanted to name me after her instead of Ellen. I like the name Mary much better than Ellen, so I am glad that happened.

I had a phone interview yesterday. It went well and I was put through to the next stage which is a formal interview. Before that happens I have to think of a good example of a conflict I had with a co-worker that was resolved successfully. As a general rule I avoid conflicts and when I was working, I did everything I could to stay out of workplace drama. I kept my head down and did my job to the best of my ability and didn’t engage in any gossip. For the most part I have always gotten along well with co-workers and so I am going to have to think long and hard about this particular question because inevitably it comes up with this company’s interviews.

So far this week I have followed my goals pretty closely. Tuesday I missed out on some of my core values (namely practicing kindness towards myself and following a routine) and had a bit of a rough day overall. The most important thing I have been really faithful to, though, which is eating an anti-inflammatory diet to improve my arthritis. My hip pain has improved considerably since I’ve been doing this. The rest of the week I need to get in exercise every day to complete my goal for that (which is to run a total of 4 days). Creativity-wise I’m on track and have written every single day and completed two portraits so far (one of them took two days). I plan to start a third portrait later today. I have not spent any money this week so far so I’m on budget, which was another goal.
