Job Interviews

So I had two job interviews yesterday. One at 9am and one at 1pm. The second one was a formal interview after having passed a screening interview.

The first interview went well. I feel I talked clearly and coherently, didn’t fumble over my words or anything. I felt confident and got on well with the interviewer (we had some pleasant small talk and he seemed amiable enough). It seemed like the questions were pretty intense, but I was good at coming up with the best answers I could in the moment. Hopefully I came up with strong enough examples.

The hours would be 9:30am to 6pm Monday through Friday and it’s a temporary position with the potential of a permenant position if I do well. I’m not particularly ambitious with jobs and want something I can leave behind once I clock out. I don’t want a whole lot of responsibility, so I am not looking to climb the ladder. I don’t need to make heaps of money because this is just a supplement income to my husband’s salary. My health insurance would be through my husband’s work (we get great insurance because he works for a hospital) so I don’t really need benefits except for paid time off. I would just like a nice, stable position that I can do and then not worry about when I’m not working. I would never want to be a manager.

I hear back in a week to a week and a half about this first job. In the meantime I will keep applying for other jobs. The more interviews I get the better. So I just have to get myself out there as much as I can in order to get interviews. For every 20 jobs I apply for I’ve gotten like one interview.

The second interview didn’t go as well. One of the interviewers made me really nervous. He was stony and silent and didn’t engage in any sort of conversation. It was hard to relax and just talk normally when the other party gives you absolutely nothing to bounce off. The interview was supposed to be 90 minutes, but only lasted an hour and they didn’t give me the navigation assessment which was supposedly supposed to happen. I think they cut the interview short. Probably did not get that job. Oh well, better luck next time.

I learned it’s best to take a morning slot for long interviews, because in the afternoon I am a little tired and the anxiety from waiting all day is high. Better to get it over with early in the day before I can think too much about it. Something to bring to the table for next time.
