Today’s drawing was a culmination of two days work so it counts as yesterday’s drawing as well. The daily poem is very short. It was written in about 2 minutes time and just stumbled out of my head in its entirety. Well that’s sort of half true, the first 5 lines came to me yesterday and I held them in my head until this morning when I completed the poem.
In my sketchbook I wrote “beans in a maracha” because I didn’t quite remember the name of the instrument I was referencing or what was inside it, so I looked that up after I was done writing and when I typed it up, I corrected myself. Maracas, which is the correct spelling, are made with pebbles not dried beans. You shake them like a rattle and they make noise. Every grade school music class has them on hand.

What tattoo do you want and where would you put it?
I want a small scientific drawing of a flea with the year 1347 written below it in Roman numerals. That is the date the Black Death came to Europe and the flea is the carrier of the plague bacteria. Ideally this would be on my wrist or shoulder.
This is something I’ve wanted for a long time but I just don’t have the motivation to find the right tattoo artist and schedule with them. Good tattoo artists in Portland can have waiting lists for months to get in and all of them seem to specialize in different things so you have to do your research. It kind of puts me off of doing it because it feels a little overwhelming. And I don’t want to go to some shitty tattoo studio that does same day appointments and get something that turns out looking terrible and doesn’t age well.
Someday I will be inspired enough to find the right artist, get them to do an original design faithful to my mental image, and then get the tattoo.
