Today I finished the left suited figure. The face shield was tricky to render but I think I got it looking alright. Now that I’m done with the plastic suits I can tackle a normally clothed person with skin showing. Sometimes skin is really tricky to do in acrylic because it comes out looking pretty flat toned. This person’s face is largely in shadow and they have dark skin, so it might look okay. Pale skin in acrylic can come out looking a bit cartoonish.
I registered for the Sauvies Island Flat on July 4th so that will be my second half marathon of the year. My first is in April. My friend is running that one with me. We start training for that in March (we have already been running regularly so all we need to do is add a few miles to our long run each week and by April we should be up to 10 miles which is the most I run before a half marathon).
I went on the elliptical for 20 minutes today because I didn’t feel like going out in the rain. Tomorrow I will go running with my friend for 2 miles and this week the weather should be a lot warmer so running will be easier.
I have decided to start writing a poem a day (one of my New Year’s resolutions) and I’ll keep them recorded here in this blog. This was yesterday’s poem. I haven’t written today’s yet. I do them in the evening.

Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?
Not really. I especially wasn’t proud to be an American when I was living in New Zealand. No one likes Americans overseas and I learned to speak extra quietly (I was never particularly loud to begin with) because it took longer for people to pick up on my accent when I spoke super softly (foreigners expect Americans to be loud). When I came back to America after 11 years everyone sounded like they were shouting at me as I had grown accustomed to much lower tones.
