Today I finished my Bosch study. It’s okay. I’m somewhat happy with it. Perhaps with time it will grow on me. Tomorrow I start to draw again and this week I will start a new PPE painting. It’s going to be something a bit simple because the last one was so difficult. I need something a little easier this time around.
What makes you feel nostalgic?
Seeing things in Portland that have been there since I was young makes me feel nostalgic (although I like Portland as it is now better than I liked it 20 years ago). Let’s see, there’s Tom’s Restaurant on Division, Stark Vacuums, Holman’s Bar and Grill, Excalibur Comics, Future Dreams (although it’s in a much smaller location now), Powell’s Books (the one on Burnside), Dot’s Cafe on Clinton Street, Laurelhurst Theater, Clinton Street Theater, Cinemagic on Hawthorne, Lloyd Cinemas (although it is owned by Regal now), The Baghdad, The Gold Door, Fred’s Sound of Music, Fairley’s Pharmacy and Soda Fountain, and others I am not thinking of right now.
I’m continuing to read Jane Eyre (I am at my least favorite part when she’s living with her cousins) and will soon start Mansfield Park. Yesterday I finished Persuasion. It is definitely my favorite of Jane Austen’s novels.
While I paint I have been putting on TV and film adaptations of books I have read. Right now I’m watching Little Dorrit. Last week I got through the entire miniseries of Pride and Prejudice (the one with Colin Firth). After Little Dorrit I am going to watch the 1995 version of Persuasion and then I shall start Bleak House. It’s also nice to have them on in the background throughout the day because I know the story and can miss bits of it and pick it back up without issue.
