The Art & Poetry of Mary Coleman

So I got the lines for the figures painted in and I filled in the background today. It was really tricky drawing in the people, even with a grid to help transfer the initial sketch onto the canvas. This is an ambitious painting for me because I’ve never painted an entire, fully clothed, figure before in great detail. Usually I do portraits of heads (sometimes with upper bodies), and if I do full figures, they are small and gestural. I am accustomed to doing drawings of nude bodies, but cloth is difficult for me. It’s good to have a challenge.
